Zepzig landfill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zepzig garbage dump is a disused garbage dump about 500 m west of the Zepzig district of Bernburg . The embankment is greened.

Opencasts in this area in 1969 meant that Highway 71 bypasses this area including the garbage dump in a western loop. The daybreak that occurred on November 8th, 1969 had a maximum diameter of approx. 100 m and a depth of approx. 40 m at the time of its formation. The cause of the break in the day was an old rock salt mine (Friedenshall / Solvayhall), which was closed in November 1967, penetrated into the groundwater and the salt was now leaching away

In 2010 children discovered a quarry in the middle of the landfill that was 30 meters in diameter and around 30 meters deep. The parents of the children then informed the Bernburg public order office. Landstrasse 71 in the direction of Peißen was closed on March 31, 2010. The cause is probably cavities from potash mining .
