Mullerturm (Munich)
The Müller tower was a defense tower of the second city wall of medieval Munich .
location
The tower was located in the Kreuzviertel (Munich) in the northwest of Munich's old town, west of the Jungfernturm, around the point where Rochusberg and Jungfernturmstrasse meet today. It was on the wooden courtyard corridor at the top of the city wall, which connected the Munich residence with the Herzog-Max-Burg .
history
The name "Müller Tower" was first mentioned in 1700 when the fortified tower was converted into a prison for lower court and state employees. In 1803 the tower was also referred to as the "mill tower". The origin of the name is unclear, as there was neither a mill nearby nor a family named Müller lived nearby.
In 1803, first the courtyard at the Müller tower and then the tower itself were demolished.
