Münster barometer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Münster Barometer has been carried out twice a year in cooperation between the Institute for Sociology of the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and the Westfälische Nachrichten , making it one of the oldest continuously conducted local surveys in Germany .

The teaching research project has its origins as a pretest instrument for the DFG project “National Identity of Germans”, but from the outset, not only social science topics but also current local topics were queried. Over the years, three main topics can be identified in the surveys:

  • current local issues such as construction projects, school policy or austerity measures
  • scientific topics - be it as a pretest instrument, be it for your own scientific studies or be it in the context of dissertations or theses on topics such as civic engagement, religiosity, crime or methodological questions
  • the long-term measurement of the social structure of Münster and the political mood in the city.

The Münster Barometer is a teaching research project in which employees of the Institute for Sociology develop the questionnaire together with students, carry out the survey and present the results to the public. Since the Westfälische Nachrichten financially supports the project as an externally funded project, the results are always published exclusively on a special page of the newspaper. Detailed results can be found with some time lag on the website of the BEMA research group at the University of Münster.
