Munster circle
The Münster circle - also known as the Familia Sacra - was the salon of Princess Amalie von Gallitzin in Münster . Many important minds of the time frequented there and developed, coming from the spirit of the Enlightenment , a special form of Catholicism , which emphasizes the intimate bond with God and values that charitable works arise from this attitude.
Among others are to be mentioned:
- Franz Freiherr von Fürstenberg (Vicar General of the Diocese of Münster),
- the school reformer Bernhard Heinrich Overberg ,
- the Droste-Vischering brothers ,
- the parents of the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff
- the philosopher and writer Johann Georg Hamann ,
- Count Friedrich Leopold zu Stolberg-Stolberg ,
- the poet and lawyer Anton Matthias Sprickmann ,
- the Dutch philosopher Frans Hemsterhuis ,
- the professor's wife and Räthin, as well as the mother of the later politician Johann Hermann Hüffer , Maria Sophia Francisca Hüffer, née Aschendorff.
The circle existed from 1786.
