Archaeologists have been investigating the treasure of 152 Arabic silver coins , known as dirhams , since it was discovered by a probe . The excavation revealed that it was buried under the floor of a house from the early Viking Age .

At around 250 grams, it is the largest find of Arabic coins from the 9th century in Denmark. The coins that found their way into the ground after AD 854 make it the oldest find of Arabic coins on Bornholm. The vast majority of coins have been found damaged by the plow, cut, or broken in half and quarters, while 20 coins are intact. The coins served as a means of payment.

The find, inscribed with Arabic script ( Kufi ), is unusual for Bornholm, which is rich in treasures, but also for Denmark.
