Müzekart

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Müzekart is Turkish and translated means museum card .

Since mid-2008, this card has granted unlimited access to 185 museums and 130 historical sites in Turkey for one year for the price of 20 Turkish Lira . In Istanbul alone you can use it to visit 14 institutions, including the Topkapı Sarayı Museum , Hagia Sophia and the Istanbul Archaeological Museum , where the card is also sold on site. It can be acquired by Turkish citizens , foreign students and, since 2013, also by foreign citizens with permanent residence in Turkey. According to the then tourism minister Ertuğrul Günay , the Müzekart was intended to increase the number of local visitors to Turkish museums, which was very low compared to foreign tourists.

Between the launch on June 18, 2008 and December 2009, 1.1 million coin cards were issued, including 500,000 in Istanbul.
