The Művész Kávéház , in German artist coffee house , is a historic artist coffee house with a pastry shop in Andrássy út 29 in Budapest . It is located on the large boulevard across from the Opera House .

The premises of the coffee house are divided into two parts: the front forms the entrance area with the area of the bar filled with light through the windows and the non-smoking tables. If you step back, you come to a very high upper class salon. The typical coffee house was already considered a meeting place for artists and bohemians when it was founded and is still a popular meeting place for Budapesters and their visitors today. The Művész Kávéház has been able to retain its neo-baroque style furnishings from the year it was founded to this day.

The heritage protection apartment building where the cafe is located, was in 1884 during the construction of Andrássy út in the style of Neo-Renaissance by architect Reszo Lajos Ray as "Black Palace ( Szenes Palota ) planned. Initially called himself the coffee Kis-Gerbeaud Cukrászda ( Small Gerbeaud pastry shop , see also Café Gerbeaud , which is still located on Vörösmarty tér today.) From 1898 it became Művész Cukrászda or Művész Kávéház .

In 2008 the coffee house was renovated and the original condition with the old furnishings and wall paneling was restored.
