Məcid Zahid oğlu Kərimov (born December 16, 1958 in Baku , Azerbaijani SSR ) is an Azerbaijani politician and scientist .

Life

Məcid Kərimov graduated from the Azerbaijan State Institute of Oil and Chemistry in 1980 and worked in various fields of oil and gas engineering until 1989. From 1989 to 1999 he held various positions at the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan ( SOCAR ). Afterwards he was director in their research and project planning institute GosNIPI “Gipromorneftegas” for two years.

From 2001 to 2004, Kərimov was Azerbaijani Minister of Fuel and Energy. In 2001 he was appointed by the Azerbaijani President to chair a state commission for the implementation of four important international projects (Azəri-Çıraq-Günəşli oil fields, Shah Denis , Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline , Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline). He was then Minister of Industry and Energy until 2005.

In 2005 he became president of the state-owned company Aserchemie . From 2006 to 2010 he was a member of parliament in the Milli Məclis .

Kərimov led projects for the development of oil and gas fields, the conversion and transport of oil and natural gas, the production of chemical and petrochemical products and the use of alternative energy sources. As a member of the government, Kərimov took part in various international conferences (e.g. in Russia). In 2005 he chaired the international petroleum-gas conference, which traditionally takes place in Baku. In 2008 he was awarded the Honored Scientist Award of the Republic of Azerbaijan .

He is married and has two children.
