MDO

The MDO (Medical Doctor of Osteopathy) is a training title for specialists in osteopathic medicine. The title is awarded by the German Society for Chirotherapy and Osteopathy .

In Germany, osteopathy is a complementary medical treatment that can be practiced by doctors and alternative practitioners alike. The MDO is recognized as an osteopathic training by the Osteopathic International Alliance . The multi-year curriculum can only be completed by doctors who have specialist certification and recognition of the qualification “ manual medicine ” by a regional medical association in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. The training comprises a manual medicine program of at least 320 hours and an osteopathic medicine program of at least 380 hours.

Requirements for the acquisition of the MDO are:

  • Completed medical degree
  • Additional medical qualification "Chirotherapy / Manual Medicine"
  • Completion of the osteopathy curriculum
  • Passed the final exam
