Guylian is a Belgian chocolate manufacturer. Guylian is the inventor and well-known manufacturer of chocolate seafood .
history
The company was founded in Belgium in 1958 by Guy Foubert. The company's name is derived from the combination of Foubert's first name and that of his wife Liliane. Chocolate seafood has been made manually since the 1960s, and production was switched to mechanical processes from the 1970s / 80s.
In March 2005, Guylian set a Guinness World Record . In eight days, 26 employees created an Easter egg from chocolate. The sculpture was 8.32 meters high and 6.39 meters wide, weighed 1,950 kilograms and was placed in the market square of Sint-Niklaas , the birthplace of Guy Foubert.
In 2008, Guylian was bought by the South Korean company Lotte Confectionery.
Products
In addition to chocolate seafood, Guylian markets other chocolate products such as chocolate bars , pralines , truffles , chocolate-coated fruits and nougat .
Sponsorship
Guylian has supported Project Seahorse since 1999 , an initiative by international marine biologists to protect seahorses . Project Seahorse was founded by Amanda Vincent from the University of British Columbia ’s Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries , the UK partner of the project is the Zoological Society of London . Guylian is the main sponsor and has so far supported the initiative with 1.7 million euros.
