Messaging application programming interface
Messaging Application Programming Interface ( MAPI , dt .: interface for programming of news processing programs ) is one of Microsoft developed Windows - Programming . MAPI is the central interface between Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Server and enables other programs to access e-mail functions.
For example, using MAPI it is possible to send e-mails via Outlook without the user opening Outlook.
MAPI is based on the Component Object Model .
MAPI exists in the versions Simple MAPI and Extended MAPI (MAPI 1.0). The Vendor Independent Messaging (VIM) standard was proposed by a number of other manufacturers, but could not prevail over MAPI.
Free open source implementations of MAPI
Some free open source projects offer support for the MAPI interface.
