The 400 series were narrow-gauge tank locomotives with three coupling axles of the Italian Mediterranea-Calabro-Lucane (MCL).

The 21 locomotives of the 400 series were delivered by the Officine Meccaniche di Saronno in two sub-series between 1931 and 1932. They were three driving axles, a leading carrying axle and Caprotti - valve control facilities. The Adhäsionslokomotive were to carry with its output of 600 hp able trains on lines with 60 per thousand slope. One locomotive was located in the Cosenza depot , 10 in Gioia Tauro , 6 in Bari and 4 in Potenza . Two machines are still operational today, number 402 in Potenza and 421 in Bari. Locomotive 411 is a memorial in Città di Castello , number 412 is Mileto .
