The MEPhI male choir is one of the most famous amateur choirs in Russia, the only one of its kind. Since the founding day, October 16, 1956 , only students, graduates and employees of the National University for Nuclear Research "MEPhI" (until 2009 the Moscow Institute for Technical Physics).

Artistic Director

Since 1987 the choir has been artistically directed by Nadezhda Maljawina, a graduate of the Moscow Conservatory . She is a student of Klawdij Ptiza and Wladislaw Sokolow, among others.

The repertoire

The choir has a rich repertoire in different genres of choral music ; these are sacred and secular works by Russian and European composers, opera choirs, folk songs, etc.

Despite its amateur status, the choir was recognized in the professional environment. Together with the leading Russian orchestras, the choir sang important works of the vocal symphonic classical music such as:

Concert activity

The choir regularly gives concerts in well-known Moscow concert halls and takes part in Russian and international festivals and competitions.

In July 2016, the choir won the title of Champion of the 9th World Choir Games .

The MEPhI men's choir is a frequent guest in Austria. The choir performed several times at the sessions (including the 50th anniversary session in 2006) of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency . The choir is also a permanent participant in the Austrian-Russian choir festival “Vienna - City of Choirs”.
