The MilNet in Europe

description

It emerged in 1983 from the ARPANET . The ARPANET was originally a joint project of scientific and military institutions. From 1983, for security reasons, this was divided into two parts: the military MILNET and the now scientific ARPANET, from which the Internet later developed. In the transition phase, both networks were linked by gateways .

In the course of the 1980s, the MILNET was expanded to the Defense Data Network , a worldwide system of diverse military networks with different security levels. In the 1990s, the MILNET became the NIPRNet .
