The Secret Internet Protocol Router Network ( SIPRNet , also known as Intelink -S) is an association of computer networks owned by the US Department of State and Defense . This US government network is used for the quasi- internal transport of files / documents, in particular from foreign bodies of these authorities, which may not be publicly distributed or transported. It affects the distribution restrictions up to the " secret " level of the US regulations. Information classified above this level of confidentiality is disseminated through the Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications System (JWICS).

In 1991 the United States Department of Defense commissioned the establishment of the network . In 2010, there was a publication of cables from US embassies by WikiLeaks , which u. a. should come from the SIPRNet. As a result, access through the SIPRNet to the Net-Centric Diplomacy Database , in which a large amount of secret information is stored, was initially deactivated. Approximately 2.5 million US officials and military personnel have access to this network.
