The MKB Bank (formerly Magyar Külkereskedelmi Bank ) is the third largest bank in Hungary .

The Magyar Külkereskedelmi Bank was founded in 1950. The main focus was on promoting foreign trade and participating in international payments. During the banking reforms in 1987, MKB Bank received a full banking license. After that, a nationwide network of branches was set up. The first domestic privatization of a large bank was decided by the general assembly on July 15, 1994.

On May 3, 2006, MKB Bank acquired 60 percent of Unionbank in Bulgaria. MKB Bank has subsidiary banks in Bulgaria (MKB Bank Sofia) and Romania ( Nextebank ). The BayernLB has entered already in 1994 in the MKB Bank. MKB Bank has over 220,000 private and over 38,000 corporate customers.

Erdei Tamás (since 1991), Simák Pál and Balogh Imre are responsible for the management.

The headquarters are located in 1056 Budapest, Váci utca 38 (formerly: Lipót utca), in the (former) military casino designed by Major Ernst Krickl and completed in 1899 .

Insurance In 2006, the Bavarian Insurance Chamber (50 percent), BayernLB (25 percent) and MKB Bank (25 percent) founded the two insurance companies:
