The MLG 27 is a medium-caliber automatic gun based on the Mauser BK 27 for maritime applications. It is manufactured by Rheinmetall . MLG 27 stands for M arine- L eicht- G eschütz in caliber 27 millimeters.

description

The gun , which is designed as a revolver cannon , is used as a light gun to combat unarmored or lightly armored sea targets, aircraft, missiles, but also land targets. The Mauser BK 27 was chosen because the weapon had proven itself in use on the Panavia Tornado and Eurofighter Typhoon . The gun is individually mounted and remotely controlled. One advantage of the gun is that it can easily be retrofitted to existing warships, as no deck openings are necessary. In addition to a daylight camera, a thermal imaging device is used to track targets . The weapon system is therefore capable of all-weather combat. The entire fire control system is integrated in the gun. A laser rangefinder allows distance measurement both manually and automatically. The ammunition is supplied from a small ammunition box to the right of the weapon.

user

The MLG 27 can be found on practically all larger units of the German Navy , such as the frigates F122 , F123 and F124 , the corvettes K130 or the task force supply units . Use is also planned on the new F125 frigates. It replaces existing 20 mm and 40 mm guns or represents the original equipment. In the MLG 27, the German Navy has been using FAPDS ammunition, also developed by Rheinmetall, since 2003 .
