MPE (operating system)
MPE ( M Ultimatum P rogramming E xecutive ) is an operating system from Hewlett-Packard for minicomputers of 1974 . It runs exclusively on HP-3000 computers. The name of the operating system was changed to MPE / iX to make POSIX compatible.
The main components are:
- the database system Image / 3000, later TurboIMAGE
- the mask generator VPLUS / 3000
- the system programming language SPL (Systems Programming Language), similar to ALGOL / Pascal (programming language)
As a result of the end-of-life announcement by Hewlett-Packard , a group of MPE developers founded the OpenMPE initiative , which continues to develop the operating system.
