The Kiribati coat of arms was adopted in 1979.
description
In the divided coat of arms , a golden frigate bird can be seen above the rising sun on a red field and underneath three blue wavy stripes in silver (symbol of the Pacific ).
On the ribbon below the coat of arms is the motto of the state:
- " Te Mauri Te Raoi Ao Te Tabomoa "
- ( Health, peace and prosperity )
The same motif can be seen - without a motto - on the flag of Kiribati .
symbolism
The waves represent the Pacific Ocean . The sun is supposed to symbolize the golden future of the independent state. The frigate bird is the national bird of Kiribati.
history
On May 1, 1937, King George VI. from Great Britain the then still British colony of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands ( Gilbert and Ellice Islands Colony ) a coat of arms.
The banner had the motto in Kiribati and Tuvaluan :
- “ Fear God and honor the king. "
In 1979 this coat of arms became the official coat of arms of Kiribati with a new saying.
