As a seal of the Federated States of Micronesia serving state seal .

It is similar to its predecessor, that of the Pacific Islands Trust Territory .

The English lettering is on the outer ring:

" Government of the Federated States of Micronesia "

The outer ring is also often framed by a rope, both inside and outside.

In the center of the inner circle is the floating seedling of a coconut palm , the most important crop on the islands, in front of a dark blue and light blue undulating background. The dark blue symbolizes the sea, the light blue the Pacific sky.

On the light blue half there are four white stars, they represent the four island groups of the Federation: Chuuk , Pohnpei , Kosrae and Yap and can also be found in the flag of Micronesia .

Below the palm tree, on a dark blue background, there is a banner with the English lettering:

Below it is the year 1979, the year in which the four later federal states ratified the constitution of the thus founded Federated States of Micronesia.
