description
Tonga's coat of arms shows a quartered shield framed by gold ornaments .
- In the first, golden field, there are three six-pointed silver stars. They stand for the three main island groups Tongatapu , Ha'apai and Vava'u .
- The second, red field shows the royal crown , which is supposed to symbolize the royal family.
- In the third, blue field, a white dove flies with a green myrtle branch in its beak. It stands for peace, unity and Christianity.
- In the fourth, golden field, three swords cross each other . They stand for the three royal families Tu'i Tonga , Tu'i Ha'stakalaua and Tu'i Kanokupolu , from which the ruling royal family is derived.
- On the silver heart plate is a white six-pointed star with a red cross on it. This cross is identical to the cross in the jack of the state flag and symbolizes the state as a whole.
This design is repeated slightly changed in the Royal Standard .
There are two national flags behind the shield .
A royal crown hovers over the shield, around which a wreath of corn twigs winds, which symbolizes the judiciary in times before the kingdom and the royal family with God's grace.
The motto on the banner reads in Tongan :
- “ Ko e ʻOtua mo Tonga ko hoku Tofiʻa. "
- (" God and Tonga are my inheritance. ")
