The coat of arms of Christmas Island , an Australian outer area , shows in the blue coat of arms the white constellation Cross of the South over five equally colored stylized waves coming up from the base of the shield , in which five blue leaves are embedded.

On April 14, 1986, the coat of arms was adopted, but received no official character. The blue color symbolizes the Indian Ocean in which the island is located. The motto and coat of arms were not chosen.
