This list shows and explains the flags and coats of arms of the Australian states and territories .

The flags of the states have the same structure: An emblem is shown on a Blue Ensign , which mostly emerged from the so-called Colony Badge, the identification symbol of the respective colony . The aspect ratio of all flags is 1: 2 .
In contrast are the flags of the two Australian territories, which are similar in structure and are more recent.

The flag of the Australian Capital Territory was inspired by that of the Northern Territory. The slightly modified city coat of arms of Canberra is depicted in gold and the constellation Southern Cross in blue . The coat of arms of the Australian Capital Territory applies to the Australian Capital Territory and for the capital Canberra . In 1928 the winning design was sent to London to be examined.
