Flag of the Australian Capital Territory
The flag of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is noticeably different from that of the Australian states, as it is not a variant of the British Blue Ensign . It features the city colors of Canberra , blue and gold (these also correspond to the heraldic colors of Australia ).
On the blue field on the Liek the Southern Cross is depicted in blue , in the middle of the golden part of the flight the modified coat of arms of the Australian Capital Territory or the city of Canberra. The exact colors are Pantone 123 or PMS 116 (gold) and Pantone 293 or PMS 287 (blue).
Although the ACT has existed since 1911 and was given the right to self-government in 1989, it did not have its own flag. The Legislative Council therefore decided to introduce it. In 1988 and 1992 design competitions were held. Ultimately, the design by Ivo Ostyn, which looks like the flag of the Northern Territory , was victorious . The Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly , the Legislative Council, introduced the flag in 1993.
