The governor's official flag

The flag of Tasmania was first unofficially introduced on September 25, 1876 . It is a variant of the British Blue Ensign , with the state badge in the flight section. The badge is a white disc with a striding red lion in the middle. The exact meaning of this design is unknown, but it is believed that the lion is related to England . The flag has remained almost unchanged, with the exception of a small detail change to the lion in 1975 when the government officially introduced the flag.

Previous flag

Tasmania introduced its first flag in 1875, but only one month later it was discarded in favor of the current one. The old flag did not meet the requirements set by the British Admiralty . In the flight section, the Southern Cross was depicted with five-pointed stars.
