New South Wales Coat of Arms

The coat of arms of New South Wales , a state of Australia , is square in blue with a continuous red cross with a white border .

In the first and fourth fields a hanging golden fleece and in the other two fields a golden grain sheaf. The cross arms are each covered with an eight-pointed gold star and in the middle with a running gold looking lion .

A blue and white crest hovers over the shield with half a golden faceless sun with golden rays burning red at the tips.

The shield holder is on the right a golden, red-tongued, looking lion and opposite a golden kangaroo looking at him .

Under the shield a white ribbon with red border stripes and the words in black capital letters "ORTA Recens QUAM PURA NITES".
