The MPT-76 - gun ( Turkish Millî Piyade Tüfeği , National infantry rifle ' ) is a Turkish rapid-fire rifle, on the system of the American AR-15 based -Gewehrs, extended to components of the HK417 . The MPT-76 was issued to units of the Turkish military from 2017 and is intended to replace the standard HK G3 rifle .
history
The MPT-76 was developed for the Turkish military under the motto Effective like the G3, reliable like the AK-47 , practically like the M-16 , initially only for the 5.56 × 45 mm NATO caliber . However, the caliber was changed back to the heavier 7.62 × 51 mm NATO cartridge at the request of the military .
The first 200 copies were delivered in 2014. The regular equipment of the Turkish army with the MPT-76 began in 2017.
