The Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation ( MKEK , Department of Mechanical and Chemical Industry) is a state-owned company of Turkey , which for the manufacture and supply of any weapons, equipment and ammunition for the Turkish Armed Forces is responsible. MKEK ranks 90th out of the 500 largest Turkish companies and 8th out of 12 among state-owned companies (2011).
history
The institution traces its history under changing names back to the 15th century of the Ottoman Empire . The beginnings are seen in the founding of the cannon foundry ( Tophâne-i Amire ) Sultan Mehmed II . Between 1832 and 1908 this armaments industry continued its work under the name Tophane Müşirliği. After Istanbul was occupied by troops of the Entente cordiale , it was possible to bring parts of the infrastructure to Anatolia. From there the work was continued on the directive of Mustafa Kemal Pasha . She played an important role in supplying the Kuvayı Milliye in the Turkish Liberation War . Between 1919 and 1923 the Directorate for Military Factories ( Askeri Fabrikalar Umum Müdürlüğü ) was established. Since 1950 the institution has continued its work as Makina ve Kimya Endüstrisi Kurumu.

As a licensee, MKEK has produced the Walther PP , the Rheinmetall MG3 machine gun, the HK MP5 / MP5K / MP5SD submachine gun and the HK G3 , HK 33 and HK416 (Mehmetçik-1) assault rifle for the Turkish armed forces and police . The sniper rifle KNT-308 and JNG-90 are based on domestic development and production . Other products include ammunition , explosives , missiles , guided missiles , pyrotechnics, and firearms .
MKEK produces the complete 155/52 mm weapon system of the T-155 Fırtına self-propelled howitzer and the smoothbore cannon of the Sabra main battle tank .
