T-155 Fırtına is a Turkish license production of the South Korean K9 Thunder self- propelled howitzer . Compared to the K9, the T-155 has a fire control system developed in Turkey and a modified weapon turret.

The cadence of the main weapon 155 mm L / 52 is between six and eight rounds per minute thanks to the automatic loading system; she is able to shoot in the so-called MRSI method (short for Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact, German about several shots, simultaneous impact). The maximum range of the main weapon with the M107 (HE) ammunition is 18 kilometers, 30 kilometers with the M549A1 RAP (HE) and more than 40 kilometers with ERFB / BB (Base Bleed). The ammunition supply includes 48 155-mm shells and propellants.

The 155/52 mm weapon system is produced by MKEK , while the communication systems and the fire control system are produced by Aselsan . The platform, the turret and some subsystems are manufactured by the I. Maintenance Command in Arifiye / Adapazarı .

Since December 2017, the Turkish army has 250 T-155 Fırtına. The Azerbaijani armed forces originally wanted to buy 36 T-155 Fırtına, but due to the German trade embargo against Azerbaijan , the T-155 Fırtına with a German diesel engine from MTU Friedrichshafen could not be exported. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's armed forces have shown interest in the T-155 Fırtına.

The first international deployment was from the end of 2007 to January 2008 in PKK positions in northern Iraq. Some of the guns have been used on the Syrian-Turkish border since February 2016 to fire on positions of the Kurdish PYD and the terrorist organization " IS ". The vehicles support the Turkish military offensive in Northern Syria in 2016/17 from the border area . Furthermore, howitzers of the type were used in the Battle of Mosul in Iraq.
