MRE (racing car)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

MRE was a British racing car manufacturer of Formula Ford and Formula 3 racing cars from the early 1970s.

MRE was founded by British mechanical engineer Max Boxtrom, who was also responsible for the design of the racing cars. The vehicle concept made it possible to easily convert the vehicles based on tubular space frames from the Ford racing formula to Formula 3. The cars were built in small numbers, but were never really competitive. In England, Barrie Maskell and Ken Tyrrell's son , Mike, competed with the Formula 3 version in the domestic championship , but could not achieve any success with the car. In 1975 Boxtrom sold his company to Tim Schenken and Howden Ganley , who built Tiga Race Cars on the basis of MRE .
