From 1957, MaK built four-axle diesel locomotives with rod drive under the name MaK 850 D. A total of 33 copies had been built by 1966. In the MaK 850 D is a further development of the MaK 800 D . The longer chassis of the last series of the 800 D were used from the start. The cabs were provided with sun protection roofs.

The built-in MaK MA 301 AK engines have an output of 850 hp (626 kW) at 750 rpm. Depending on the type of gearbox, the locomotives reach speeds of up to 68 km / h with a service weight of 52 to 66 t. The tank capacity is 1500 liters.

commitment

A total of 23 locomotives went to Cuba; two locomotives were delivered to Sweden. The rest went to German private railways and industrial companies.

The locomotive with the serial number 1000012 is now owned by the Verkehrsamateure und Museumsbahn e. V. , Hamburg. It can be seen there as locomotive 5 of the port and transport company of the city of Kiel, where it was in use from 1970 to 1991.
