The Maaloufs ( Arabic معلوف, DMG Maʿlūf ) are one of the oldest significant tribes of Arab Christians that still exist today . They already appeared in the oldest tribal registers of the Muslim conquerors of Syria in the 6th century and their ancestry can be traced back to the 4th century AD. In Lebanon in particular , several Christian families attribute their origins to the Maaloufs.
