Lake Maardu ( Estonian Maardu järv ) is a lake in northern Estonia . It is located in Harju County near Maardu City . It used to be called Liivakandi Lake.
The lake is 170 hectares. The greatest depth is 3 m. It is located 33 m above sea level.
The flow is relatively strong, as there are many springs nearby and some moats lead to the lake. A complete water exchange takes place every 2–3 months.
The only outflow into the Baltic Sea is the Kroodi brook. The lake dried up between 1894 and 1939. It has been used as a water reservoir for the Maardu chemical and phosphorite factory since 1939 .
Today, Lake Maardu is popular with anglers. There is a beach on the north bank.
