Mabeyn

As Mabeyn ( Arabic ما بين mā bayn  'space') or Mabeyn Odası  /مابين اوطه سىwas the name given to the part of the Turkish houses located between the harem and Selamlık , to which strangers might also have access.

The Mâbeyn-i Hümâyûn  /مابين همايون / 'Imperial Mabeyn' was the part of the palace in which the Sultan received his officials and where the Turkish court chancellery was also located. Mabeynciler were the sultan's servants who were sent with a message to the various dignitaries.
