Macalester College is a college of liberal arts , which in 1874 in St. Paul , Minnesota was founded. Macalester is internationally recognized, particularly in the field of cultural studies. 216 professors teach and research at it. There are around 1,800 students, around 20% of whom are international students. Prominent Macalester College alumni include a. Kofi Annan , Walter Mondale , Tim O'Brien , Ari Emanuel , Olli Rehn , Alexander Wendt and Peter Berg . Macalester is named after Charles Macalester II (1798–1873), a businessman and Presbyterian benefactor who bequeathed much of his fortune to the school.

In the college rankings of the US American press, Macalester often reaches top ranks and is considered one of the Hidden Ivies , ie universities that meet the prestige and requirements of an Ivy League elite school .

The Mount Macalester in Antarctica is named after the College.
