Macedonia Brook State Park is a state park in the Kent , Connecticut area . The park offers opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and camping on the Macedonia Ridge Trail.

geography

The park covers a hilly area west of the Housatonic River . Cobble Mountain at 416 m on the western edge of the park is the most important of them. From its summit you have a great view of the surrounding mountains. The two brooks Pond Mountain Brook and Macedonia Brook form the waterways of the park. They converge on the southern corner of the park. Macedonia Brook is a western and right tributary of the Housatonic. Part of the western border runs along the state border between Connecticut and New York .

history

The area was originally the settlement area of ​​the Scatacook Indians, who lived relatively peacefully with the first settlers. They maintained a signal system in the mountains during the War of Independence . Since then, the area has been used for logging and the waters to drive various mills. Ore extraction was also operated at times. In 1918 a first piece of the park was made available for conservation by the White Memorial Foundation .
