The Macheret Trench ( Bulgarian падина Мачерет padina Matscheret ) is a fully glacial ice covered valley on the Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It runs under the Perunika Glacier with a maximum depth of 120 m below sea level north of the Rezen Knoll over a length of 3.8 km in a south-easterly direction to near the Wörner Gap .
Russian, Spanish and Uzbek scientists mapped them in a joint sonar location project . The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named it in 2012 after the Russian glaciologist Yuri Matscheret, under whose direction the depression was discovered in 2006.
