Wörner Gap ( Bulgarian седловина Вьорнер sedlowina Wjorner , German 'Wörner saddle' , in the United Kingdom Aurora Gap ) is a 550 m high mountain saddle on Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . This mountain pass is located 2 km northeast of the Plíska Ridge on the watershed between the Perunika and Huron glaciers .
The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named him in 1995 after the German politician Manfred Wörner (1934–1994), who was NATO Secretary General from 1988 until his death . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the Bulgarian name to English in 1996. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after the Aurora , ship of two Antarctic expeditions.
