Base Machu Picchu (also Machu Picchu Station ) is a Peruvian polar research station in the Antarctic . It is located on King George Island in Admiralty Bay . It is named after the ruined city of Machu Picchu in Peru. The station is used in the Antarctic summer from December to March. The Machu Picchu station consists of five modules: a laboratory, personal accommodation, an emergency shelter, a dining room with kitchen and a supply module for power supply, vehicle accommodation and disposal. It also has a helicopter landing pad . The ship BIC Humboldt visits the station annually.
