Whanau House System

Macleans College is New Zealand's first public school to use the Whanau House System. This divides the school into eight buildings, each with around 300 students. This creates a feeling of solidarity and belonging within every house. In everyday school life, the houses are even referred to as family substitutes. This system makes sporting events particularly interesting, as it is possible to have different houses compete against each other. The eight houses were named after famous New Zealanders: Batten , Mansfield , Rutherford , Kupe , Hillary , Te Kanawa , Snell and Upham .

Exchange student

The school is mainly financed by foreign guest students who pay fees. The price for a one-year school stay in 2010 is 15,000 New Zealand dollars (about 8500 € (course 11/2010) ). Permanent residents of New Zealand are exempt from this fee. The majority of the “International Students” come from Asia, with Europeans and South Americans in particular. In 2010 around 50 Germans were studying at Macleans College.
