The genus macrocyclis is the only genus of snails - Family Macrocyclidae from the subordination of terrestrial snails (gastropod). It contains two species that are native to South America (Chile and Argentina).

features

The housings are relatively large and measure up to about 110 mm. The shape of the housing is flattened with up to five turns. The last mouth drops sharply from the spiral axis of the other turns. The color ranges from greenish to yellowish to yellow-brown. The embryonic convolutions are smooth, the later convolutions finely radidally striped. The oblique mouth is oval with a slightly curved lower edge of the mouth. The umbilical is open. In the hermaphroditic genital apparatus, the penis retractor is positioned in the lower part of the penis. The spermatic duct (vas deferens), which inserts in the upper part of the penis, is connected to the vagina. The vagina is relatively long, but the free oviduct is very short. The stem of the spermathec is subcylindrical, does not reach the albumin gland.

Occurrence, way of life and distribution

The species of the genus occur only in Chile and Argentina (Prov. Neuquén). They live there in damp forests in the Andes.

Systematics

The Macrocyclidae family is monotypic and contains only the genus Macrocyclis with one or two species. Schileyko (1999) only mentions "1 species with a few forms" from Chile (Maule to Chiloe). The Zipcode.com website, on the other hand, lists three types. The Macrocyclis concava (Say, 1821) listed there is now included in the genus Circinaria . In contrast, Macrocyclis laxata (Férussac, 1820) also appears in a work from 2004. It is conceivable that the two names are synonyms. The distribution given in Schileyko (1999) is incomplete.
