Macronemurus appendiculatus is a lacewings from the family of antlion (Myrmeleontidae).

features

The animals reach a forewing length of 21 to 25 millimeters. As with the other species of the genus, the males of Macronemurus appendiculatus also have long genital appendages at the end of the abdomen , which clearly protrudes over the wings. The wings are transparent and have no spots. The pronotum is characteristically drawn with a broad central stripe and two fine, shortened stripes on the sides.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in southern Europe. The northern limit of distribution is in Switzerland . It is common locally. They can be found in fields, coastal dunes and fallow land, from the plains to locations around 1000 meters above sea level.

Way of life

The adults fly from June to September. The larvae do not build a trap. They live in the top soil layer of dry meadows.
