action
The series begins 35 years after the end of the war between humans and Zentradi and shows the events of the seventh Macross convoy, which is in search of a world that can be inhabited by humans in order to colonize it. The fleet comes under the influence of the Protodevlin, who discovered the spiritual energy of people they call Spiritia as a source of food and are now launching attacks on Macross 7 and its sister convoy Macross 5, destroying the latter.
In this conflict, scientists of the Macross 7 convoy discover that the key to warding off the fearsome enemy, who leaves a horde of vegetating people when the spirit is withdrawn, is the singing of the band Fire Bomber , which creates a different kind of spiritia , the Anima Spiritia that robs the Protodevlin of their power.
Characters
- Nekki Basara
- Basara is the 21-year-old lead singer and guitarist of the band Fire Bomber , as well as a staunch pacifist, whose great role model is the singer Lynn Minmay . His fiery red Valkyrie fighter jet is armed with few weapons due to its belief that its song will appease opponents, even in a heated battle. Instead of the usual armament, the transformable fighter jet has a sound system, so-called "speaker pods", which are fired as projectiles, penetrate the armor of enemy combat machines and bring their music to the enemy.
- Basara's Sidekick is a mostly barely speaking girl who is not mentioned by name, who follows him again and again with a bouquet of flowers, but usually does not get around to talking to her idol.
- Mylene Flare Jenius
- Young Mylene comes from a family of military officers and is the youngest of seven children. Her parents are former famous fighter pilots who took part in the war between the humans and the Zentradi after the initial contact and leaders of the Macross 7 convoy: Maximilian and Milia Fallyna Jenius who already participated in the war between the humans and the Zentradi. Like Basara and her parents, she is an extremely talented fighter pilot who only understands late what her band leader is trying to achieve with his goal. As the child of a human being and a Meltrandi, she herself is the key to access to an ancient ruin of the protoculture, who were responsible for the creation of the Zentradi and Protodeviln.
- Gamlin Kizaki
- Gamlin is a fighter pilot who graduated from the UN Spacys Academy at a young age and is now serving in the Defense Forces of the Macross 7 convoy. At first he feels provoked by Basara and his demeanor, but lets himself be convinced of the opposite mainly by Mylene, with whom her mother Milia wants to pair him up, and eventually becomes a kind of friend.
Publications
The television series was broadcast with a length of 49 episodes from October 16, 1994 to September 24, 1995 on the Japanese television channel MBS . When it was released on VHS and Laserdisc , there were three extra episodes called Macross 7: Encore .
On October 7, 1995, the movie Gekijōban Macross 7: Ginga ga Ore o Yonde Iru! published, which is set between episodes 38 and 39. Macross 7 itself was continued by the four-part OVA Macross Dynamite 7 , which takes place a year after the events.

reception
Macross 7 is a sequel to the four-part OVA Macross Plus and the second television series after Chōjiku Yosai Macross . As the forerunner of the Macross Frontier television series , there are a number of references to the content of this series. Above all, the fictional music group Fire Bomber should be mentioned , which is mainly played by the equally fictional fan Ozma Lee . The pieces of music used are indicated in the credits of the respective episodes with the name of the fictional band as the artist.
With Macross 7 - Trash an offshoot appeared in the Japanese manga magazine Shōnen Ace , in which other characters play the leading role.
