history

Mad About You became Carlisle's first solo hit after leaving the Go-Go's , peaking at number 3 in the United States and number 1 in Canada. In the UK , the song didn't hit the charts until 1988.

Before the song was released, Carlisle married Morgan Mason, who can be seen with her in the music video for the song. The guitar solo is played by Andy Taylor from Duran Duran , who can also be seen in the music video.

Paula Jean Brown (who took Jane Wiedlin's place in the group before the split ) wrote the song with Jim Whelan and Mitchel Young Evans. Wiedlin and Charlotte Caffey can be heard as background singers in the song. Originally Mad About You should appear on the fourth Go-Go's album. The Go-Go's broke up and Mad About You and two other songs, written by Paula Jean Brown, appeared on Belinda's album Belinda instead .

On the B-side of the single is the song I Never Wanted a Rich Man .

Leslie Libman directed the music video.
