Dodo Wildvang (born September 24, 1873 in Groß-Midlum , Ostfriesland ; † November 12, 1940 ) was a German teacher and local researcher who is known for researching the geology of East Frisia.

Life

In addition to his work as a teacher in Upleward, Wildvang initially examined the marshland at the mouth of the Ems and the Dollart , teaching himself the necessary scientific methods in self-study. This resulted in two books in 1911 and 1915. In 1925 he gave up his job as a teacher because of a hearing impairment and became a (voluntary) employee of the Prussian Geological State Office, for which he geologically mapped East Frisia (27 maps at a scale of 1: 25,000). To do this, he carried out around 60,000 holes. In 1938 his Geology of East Frisia was published .

In 1940 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Göttingen. Streets in Upleward, Emden and Weener are named after him.

With the botanist Ferdinand Dewers (1889–1961), Heinrich Schütte , the diatom researcher Christoph Brockmann (1878–1962) from Bremerhaven, the teacher and explorer of the East Frisian islands Otto Leege (1862–1951), the Wilhelmshaven port construction director Wilhelm Krüger (1871–1940) ) and the director of electricity construction in Bremen Ludwig Plate (1883–1967), he was the founder of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Norddeutscher Geologen (working group of north German geologists at that time) in 1927.
