Madalena is a place and a former municipality in northwestern Portugal .
Madalena belongs to the city and county of Amarante in the Porto district . The community had an area of 1.56 km² and 1968 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Madalena, Gatão , Cepelos and Amarante (São Gonçalo) were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Amarante (São Gonçalo), Madalena, Cepelos e Gatão .
