The silver dikdik ( Madoqua piacentinii ) is a species from the subfamily of the gazelle-like (Antilopinae).

description

The silver dikdik is between 45 and 50 centimeters long and reaches a shoulder height of 30 to 33 centimeters. The tail is between 3 and 4 centimeters long. It weighs 2 to 3 kilograms. The velvety soft fur is silvery to grayish. Legs, ears and muzzle are sand-colored, the top of the nose often red-brown.

distribution

The silver dikdik occurs in a small distribution area in the coastal, southeastern Somalia from Hobyo to Mogadishu and in the river area of ​​the Shabelle in the Ethiopian Ogaden . In Somalia the animals live mainly in thickets, in the Ogaden also Acacia - Commiphora - savannas .

The silver dikdik is a pure herbivore. It feeds on the shoots and leaves of shrubs and herbs.
