Maerlin

Maerlin was an Austrian folk band . It was founded in 1980 by Heinz Blaha (* 1956) and Richard Hafner (* 1958) in Vienna and was one of the first to deal with the modernization of Austrian songs and dances.

  • Helmut Lindner (vocals, guitar)

The group won the 1981 Pop-O-Drom competition in the Folk category. After a reshuffle in 1984, Wolfgang Knotek (guitar, arrangement) and Ursula Schwarz (violin, piano) joined, the repertoire was expanded to include music from all over Europe. Melodies from Southeast Europe in particular were included in the program by arranger Knotek and the LP Zollfrei ( extra plate ) was finally produced in 1985 . Concert tours to Germany, Italy, Russia and intensive work in Austria followed. In 1988 and 1989, the group put together two musical theater collages before they finally broke up.
