Location and architecture
The magazine is a cave complex in Mönchsberg , at Augustinerstraße 13, on the outskirts of the city in Outer Mülln , directly below the Johannesschlössl . This includes two town houses , one from the 18th and one from the 19th century. This was built behind the new gate when the city was expanding , and the tunnels served as storage space.
In the 2000s it was planned to set up a culinary center with a restaurant and bar. Since the expansion in 1995, the area has been in the old town protection zone, and also in the buffer zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Center of the City of Salzburg (the core zone begins directly behind the houses, with the Mönchsberg). Although the two old town houses are "modest, if not to say poor examples of their epoch [...] architecturally rather insignificant", the determination process expressed the wish to see them in their "importance for the cityscape and urban fabric" - that is, in the sense of an ensemble - / Site protection - to receive.
