The Magdalenenfest 2019

The Magdalenenfest is an annual summer festival in Munich's Hirschgarten . It is named after Maria Magdalena .

The beginnings of the Magdalenenfest date back to 1728. This year, the Magdalenenklause was inaugurated in the Nymphenburg Palace Park . The park and the hermitage were made accessible to the common people on the name day of the patroness (July 22nd). A small spring rose next to the Magdalenenklause, which was supposed to bring help with eye diseases, which led to the fact that the hermitage became a place of pilgrimage . In 1790 the castle park was opened to the general public on a permanent basis and a fair developed around the name day. Until 1930 the Magdalenenfest took place in the castle rondel, then it was moved to Romanplatz . In 1958 the festival was moved to the Hirschgarten and has now lasted 16 days.
